My baby boy is growing up! Just yesterday he started asking for a “ba ba”. That’s code for bottle. You see, he’s still nursing and he’s almost 13mos old. He has been taking a bottle for my husband when I’m not around for a little while now. And, yes he eats and drinks from a sippy just fine. (just take a look at him!) But, he has always wanted his mama for bedtime cuddles and comfort.
No, I have nothing against extended breastfeeding, but I’m tired. That little guy wouldn’t even touch a bottle nipple until he was about 8 months old and then he wouldn’t even drink but a sip. But, who can blame him. Fake nipples aren’t even CLOSE to real ones. Once when my mother-in-law watched him (one of the few times he’s been away from me for very long since he wouldn’t take a bottle) she was so worried that he wouldn’t eat and that he must be starving, she served him my breastmilk in a spoon! Seriously! But, today…today is different. My little guy got all wide-eyed and giggly when we mentioned a ba ba. He started that little panicky, fast sound thing he does with his voice that I can’t even begin to imitate. He then runs to HIS DADDY and puts his chubby little arms up and repeats “ba ba, ba ba” over and over. I didn’t even know he could say BA BA! My how fast they grow. I know that sounds cheesy. But, he went in one day to not even looking at a bottle when I’m around and banging his head off my boobs and signing milk, more, mom, want - whatever his little hands could sign fast enough- to running to daddy asking for a ba ba. Sniff, sniff! All the complaining about getting up every 3-4 hours for 12 months and all the “I can’t go…I have to feed baby” and all the little panting for mommy is coming to an end. It’s sad. He’s getting to be a big boy.
So tonight I gave him a bottle before bed. I didn’t know how he’d take it since he usually is ripping at my shirt by the time his jammies are on. Take a look…

He took his ba ba like a pro. My 3yr old was so surprised she said “Mom, aren’t you gonna feed him on the boob?” “No, honey…mama’s gonna feed him like a big boy tonight”. Sniff…sniff…sniff…..

Oh they sure grow up so fast
and I know what you mean about being tired from breastfeeding I did it with my daughter for over a year and man was I ready to stop LOL
