Project Home Office: HELP!

Since I’ve become much more active on my computer now that I’m blogging, doing finances, checking email, and shopping researching, I really need a much better way of organizing my work space.  Here’s what I have…

And here’s what I’d like to have….

pboffice

Pottery Barn Office System with a sleek, new laptop.  Well,  what I would  really like to have is  a brand new laptop to take around the house and on the road with me AND  a new desktop for my nice new desk.

Here’s the space I have to put a new desk into….

This is the family room area off of my kitchen.  See that big cabinet in the corner?  That’s my area that I work in.  Yes, it’s an okay setup, but it’s really not functional.  I have paperwork, bills and  files everywhere because I don’t have one place to keep it all.  I have it in plastic bags, in drawers, on shelves and stuffed into about every possible place you can imagine.  I’m always late on bills and misplace important documents all the time.  I TRY to be  organized, but when you don’t have ONE dedicated place to keep everything, inevitably it gets lost.

So, my goal is to purchase a new desk system and computer in the near future with a  no-fail organizational system for my life.  Sounds easy, huh?  Well, not for me. I need your help!  I need your best tips to make my home office (or corner) more functional and organized.   I’d love to see photos of your home office space and  to hear about what computer you use and why you love it!

Send me your best tips, tricks and photos and I’ll feature them right here!  Then, when the time comes and I break my husband down buy a new set-up and get organized, you’ll be the first to know!  I’ll publish all the best advice right here and share it with you all!

Make sure to leave me your tips below AND email me your photos at kasey at allthingsmamma dot com

Well, what are you waiting for???  Get snappin’!

I wish I could help you, but I need help in that area myself. I have a corner desk that is all open shelving in my bedroom. It is always a disaster area.

I work from the living room as well, my desk is actually a writing desk that I got from my parents. It is big, it has lots of drawers and I love it. The computer I use is laptop,HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (I got it at Walmart last July for around 700 bucks with tax) I love my laptop, can’t live without it!
I’ll send you the picture :)

I really love the office from PB you showed above, it’s really cool!

I just recently got a laptop and it has really changed a lot. Thanks to my wireless internet I can go outside and blog and because uverse has an agreement with Starbucks I can have internet access for up to 2 hours a day at any Starbucks. It makes life a lot easier.

I definitely suggest getting a mail holder, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Scroll-Mount-Letter-Holder-Black/dp/B000KJRRBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1251087520&sr=8-1
Obviously, it could be something more to your taste, but it will help you keep bills, documents, & etc sorted out. Another thing that would come in handy and add a little spice would be a few tiles of cork board and a memo holder. I know you can buy 12×12 tiles of cork at Walmart for just a few dollars and you could make your own memo board to a few bucks.

Hope that helped a bit.

I have a Dell Studio 17 Laptop that I paid way too much for, but I absolutely love it. I consider it one of my best purchases. I had always used a desktop, so I was a bit hesitant to switch, but I will NEVER go back.

Hey girl – Yeah – all I’ll say is that I just bought a macbook and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. My father just got a mini laptop and it’s broken already and our desktop is a pain. We bought wireless and put it into the house and our 2 laptops can go anywhere. I highly recommend a Mac but that’s just me. I use to be a mac person but I am again now. You can run Vista on mac too so if you have programs only available on a “PC” they now make it possible on macs. Give me a call and I can shop with you. We got ours at Best Buy… I also have an iphone but :) … I’m a little bias huh.

After you get a lappy (aka laptop) I LOVE my Belkin lap desk. It helps have circulating air on the laptop (and not hot on your legs)but it also lifts up to a more comfortable writing height in your lap. For when it’s on the table I use a fan thingy that’s slimmer. It keeps the computer cooler (plugs into the usb) and helps keep it from overheating and crapping out. Just FYI.Good Luck. I look forward to seeing your desk solution. I have to keep all my important files in my laptop bag as I go between 4 locations and have to have the info where ever I am. Oh! And I have a backup portable HD that I keep at home. So that if something happens to the laptop I haven’t lost it all. (well worth the money to not lose all the photos!) -Liz

Yes, I would love to be able to lounge on the couch or in the backyard and be on the computer. That would be awesome!
