Tiger In The Rough

Tiger Woods

April 13, 1997…a day that I remember well.  It was the day that Tiger Woods stormed into the golf world with an unprecedented 12 shot victory at the Masters.   Everyone was fascinated with his long tee shots, his flashy smile, his boyish excitement and his masterful putts.  Now…he’s simply just a putz.

I have been captured by the Tiger Woods car crash scandal for the past week now.  I, like many, love Tiger.  He is the superstar of my generation.  He is the one that I can tell my kids, “I remember watching Tiger when…”  And now he has let me and the rest of his fans down.  I would probably feel better about the whole situation had he taken steroids or something.  At least then he would have only been cheating on a game, instead of his wife and children (the steroids thing would have still bothered me though probably).  Is he really that dumb to think that he was going to get away with something?  I mean, you were in a Vegas nightclub for crying out loud!

Some people say that they are happy because it brings him down to our level, that he’s human because he made a mistake…forgetting to pay the power bill is a mistake…cheating on your wife is a sin and nowhere near my level.  And now he’s trying to buy his marriage!  I guess that’s what you do if you have a billion dollars.  I remember the commercial with all the little kids that were saying, “I’m Tiger Woods”, what a great example this is for those kids.

Maybe Tiger and his wife can work things out, I’m not sure, it would take an awfully forgiving woman, but until then Tiger do us all a favor and keep your putts on the green and your putz in your pants.

It does make me upset that kids looked or are looking up to him. But I do feel that what happened between him and his wife is only their business. If he was actually on “our level” and just one of us nobody would be interested that he cheated. Just my thoughts. I have never watched him play and don’t know a thing about golf.

I’ve never been into golf much or know really anything about Tiger Woods…let alone about any affairs. This is one of those things I really think the media has no right to. While I would never condone cheating, I think it’s terrible the media is prying into his personal life. I can’t imagine the torture it’s putting his wife through.

Thanks for the comments gals! It’s my opinion that once he signed all those endorsement deals put his face on products to get people to buy them, he became a public figure and his life became public. Also, I believe that had he come forth in the beginning of all this and simply said that, “my wife and I are having trouble”, we may have felt sorry for him and them and left them alone. He pretty much created this monster. Thanks again for your thoughts!

Brian, I’m going to be real honest about this. Hope that’s ok. :-)

Tiger Woods plays golf. He does it well. He’s made a lot of money doing it, which I say “Good for you!” on that. When someone does one thing really really well, it shouldn’t automatically make people think that that “someone” is perfect, sinless, or worthy of being looked up to. If people end up thinking any or all of those things about Tiger Woods, it’s certainly not Tiger Wood’s fault, in my opinion. Not unless somewhere along the line he said that he’s perfect, sinless, and worthy of being looked up to… just because he plays golf so well.

I don’t know you, Brian, and I only “know” your wife through her blog. But I’d like to see what you would do if you made a billion buck$ over the next 10 years. You can tell me, until you turn blue in the face, that you’d be the same person you are now… that you’d never cheat on your wife… that it simply wouldn’t change you in the least… and I wouldn’t believe you. There’s not a soul on earth that a billion buck$ *hasn’t* changed… not one! I doubt if you’d be the first.

If you enjoy golf & enjoy watching the dude play, then watch him. If you want to buy shoes or clothes or whatever, just because Tiger Woods was hired to advertise those things, then more power to you… go ahead. But if you are put out by his conduct within his marriage because you idolize him or put him on a pedastal and he’s let you down… well, that’s idol worship & I’m guessing that’s probably wrong in the religion you’re affiliated with.

As far as the media goes, I think it’s hogwash to say that just because Tiger Woods was employed by a company, to appear in ads for their products, his private life is now public fodder. No job a man holds provides an automatic license for the public to come into his bedroom… no matter who he happens to be sharing it with, on any given night… and no matter his marital status.

Peace.

Just out of curiosity…

You said…”It’s my opinion that once he signed all those endorsement deals put his face on products to get people to buy them, he became a public figure and his life became public.”

So in the same respect, I’m paid to not necessarily endorse, but promote certain products…I’ve put my name to that brand, does that leave my entire life open to public scrutiny?

I think every human, regardless of occupation has a right to privacy. If he were to come on tv and say, hey I cheated on my wife…well that would be a different story.

Cat, from Tigerwoods.com…

“I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.”

It goes on and ends with…

“Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it’s difficult.”

“I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.”

Hmmm…wonder what transgressions he’s referring to?

After you read his apology, you do feel for him. It is a bad situation to go through and worse that it’s so public. But, it is now and it looks like from the latest news, its gonna get worse!

I totally think that once you put your life out there in the media, it’s going to be examined under a microscope, no matter what. Is it right? Is it fair? No, probably not. But, it’s a simple fact of our society today. Take a look at the top stories in any magazine, news website, or in social media – it’s about celebrities and their life.

MOST (not all) people are fascinated with these people and love to see what’s going on in their life – good or bad. I will admit that I LOVE ENews, TMZ, People, and US!! (I even get breaking news texts from E!) I love realty shows and if they involve celebrities – the better! It’s a break from my realty and I find it all fascinating and entertaining!

I do believe that the media is really diving deep into the Tiger situation and that is tough on him and his family. It’s probably a little much. But, HEY…Jon Gosselin is REALLY thankful to Tiger right now! HAHA!

Thanks for the awesome post, babe!! Looking forward to your next!

He is a man with EVERYTHING. Money, talent, beautiful wife, gorgeous children. When you have everything, you get really really bored. I think he’s human and he made a mistake. Doesn’t mean that I am not going to buy Nikes. I just wish the media would let it go and let him deal with it with his family. It’s their problem, not mine. And if his wife is shallow enough to take a renegotiation deal and stay for money, well then that is her problem.

I think the whole situation just sucks! He sucks for cheating on his wife and the media sucks for invading a family’s privacy. Do you think I said sucks enough, LOL?

I am disappointed in Tiger cheating but technically we shouldn’t know about it. I’m sure cheating hurts enough but to have it all over the news! I’m sure his wife is having a hard time with this and I wish her luck and that everything works out the way it should.

One more thing, to have him labeled as a cheater is very good karma I’m sure all of us that has been cheated on wishes we could have put their faces all over the news and had cheater written on the foreheads! haha.

“…to have him labeled as a cheater is very good karma.”

Really? Karma has nothing to do with the labeling of another person… only of oneself… and their own actions. In other words, we’re all responsible for our own actions and labeling. I think the Bible speaks of this too, doesn’t it? Also something about not looking for the speck in someone else’s eye but rather searching for the log in your own? ::shrug:: The same kind of principle falls across many different religious belief systems.

Sorry I knew that was not the appropriate term to use but for that second it’s all I could think of. I meant pay back. But then again he is probably labeling himself a cheater right about now with every day more girls come forward. Whether or not he thinks it is a bad thing, I don’t know.

YES – the scandal just gets deeper as time goes on. Last report I heard today (from my ENews text) is that he is hiding with his family and now there are 9 additional women that have come forward! GEEZ!!!! This just keeps getting interesting!

I dunno I think breaking the law is worse, and some that do get let off a lot easier than he is doing for this ’scandal’

I do think like one of the reporters said, when he starts winning again people will forget.

Remember Kobe’s “scandal”? Sort of but not really…
