Money Saving Tip #1:

Don’t buy paper products!! The prices add up (even the least expensive). Just use your normal dinnerware. You may have lots of dishes to do, but you will save lots! :)

2 Brittany February 3, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Money Saving Tip #2:

Ask guests to bring a dessert to share, if they want. Requiring a dish at parties (potluck) can be a burden to guests sometimes, but a lot of people don’t like coming empty handed.

Money Saving Tip #3:

Shop at discount grocery stores or go for the generic brands. We have a local discount store that has tons of stuff especially produce (great for veggies and dip or fruit salad).

We have an “Un-Superbowl Party” where friends come over and we watch movies, play games, whatever, but don’t actually watch the Superbowl lol. One year I made homemade pizzas, which can get pretty expensive buying the sauces, toppings, cheese, etc., so we asked everyone to bring a different pizza topping. We all ate awesome homemade pizza, but it didn’t cost anyone very much because everyone chipped in.

you know ahead of time when the game is and the crowd will be coming over so a great tip for saving money and time is to make crock pot items about 2 weeks before game night like chilli, baked beans, salsas, heated dips like black bean nacho, and freeze them up in tupperware containers or freezer bags laying them flat stacked pattern in your freezer so on game day you can either microwave them to use or slowly heat them up in your crock pot again, and leave on low for them to enjoy, thanks

if you think the kids will not be as interested in the game as the adults but do not want them to be left out of the fun, ask the parents coming to bring one or two of their board games by the time 4 or 5 couples have pooled them together with yours the kids will have lots games to play that are new and of interest to play with while the adults are watching the game, thanks

pizza is propbably the biggest seller during football game time and very costly, so on game day or even a day or two before have everyone make their own pizzas and freeze them to save alot of money verses buying them from restaraunts. For kids size pizzas use round cake pans to make smaller sizes or as appitizer pizza bites use muffin pans & make smaller ones, thanks

I buy and stock up year round for staples, like canned tomatoes, beans & fixings for chili or baked beans. Also on paper items, plates in small & large sizes ( if you are using paper) napkins, they do not have to be holiday themed, if want some pizazz get one package of themed & mix them with plain ones.

Planning to feed a crowd can be a challenge but I’ve found it is easiest to plan a “partial pot luck”. As the host, you ask people to bring appetizers, finger foods and dessert. You supply the entree type item and the drinks. It cuts down the cost and makes it easier all around!

Another great thing to do is have a “BYOP” – bring your own plates (and cutlery). People bring their own items and take them home, which saves the cost of disposable plates and little cleanup!

If you are planning a whole family event, with kids and wives as well, you can plan a kid-friendly activity that ties into the meal while those who want to watch the game can watch! For example, the kids could help make no-bake cookies in the kitchen that can be part of the meal at halftime!

A tip of mine, is to make a big batch of iced tea as opposed to buying a bunch of soft drinks. Almost everyone (in the South anyways), loves iced tea. I’d suggest making a sweetened and an unsweetened batch, making sure to have some artificial sweetener for the dieters in your group. There’s nothing worse than spending money on a bunch of liter soft drinks and after everyone’s gone home, finding all of them opened and half empty and flat.

If you are hosting a Super Bowl Party~ make it as inexpensive as possible- Have everyone bring a dish to share! Have each family bring a dish maybe 1) Italian ex:pasta or pizza
2) Mexican 3) American 4) Norwegian 5) French 6) German- Make the party a little unique, but fun- and it won’t be so costly since everyone pitched in. Oh, another great tip. If people want something other than water to drink- tell ‘em to bring their own. Most people are open to that- I’ve never had anybody tell me “Bad idea”

For us we love to snack on appetizers and don’t need a big fancy meal. Today I’m doing make your own nachos and tacos. I supply the chips and taco shells, taco seasoned turkey meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, salsa, and guacamole. Yummy, and I was able to buy eveything in big packages (at Sam’s, lol) and it was very reasonable and so yummy!

Thought of another one, for a Superbowl gathering or any time you have a group over for a sporting event. Turn down your heat a few degrees – with that many excited sports fans in a house, it’s going to be warm anyway. That’s a good way to save on your heating bill (people always open the window when it gets warm in the house right? Don’t let that happen, cool it down instead)
