Carving Out Time

Post image for Carving Out Time

At least once I week, I sneak off to Barnes and Noble with my laptop and enjoy a latte and a little quiet blogging time.  My husband is awesome about taking care of things around the house and the kids so I can get some “me” time.  He not only agrees for me to  get away…he encourages it!

I usually sit a while, people watch, check into Facebook, Twitter and all my favorite Blogs like MckMama, The Ohana Mamma and Theta Mom and then I relax into pecking out a post or two.  It’s a great time to unwind and write without the distractions of home.  I seem to always feel that “mommy guilt” while I’m writing a post with a 21 month old climbing up my legs or a 4 year old wanting to show me her latest drawing creation.  BUT, while pursing my never-ending quest to do LESS in the New Year, I take off and try to clear my mind of any guilt and know that I’ll return a more patient, calm and happy Mommy.

On my latest trip to Barnes and Noble, I stayed a couple of hours and was able to complete a couple of posts.  The sun was shining and the feeling of Spring was everywhere you looked and also bubbling from inside me.  I was happy.  I was ready for the new Season and new beginnings.  That’s why Spring is most possibly my favorite of all seasons – the newness it brings is invigorating. The promise of flowers blooming, birds returning and trees budding is amazing!

At our home before this one, I had a wonderful cottage flower garden.  We lined the white picket fence with Foxgloves, Roses, Hydrangeas, Holly Hocks, Saliva and more!  It was beautiful!  It grew from a few flowers to a full garden in just a few years time.  I’ve not started a garden at this house, yet because it really has some nice plants and shrubs in place. With small children, I just haven’t the time for a full garden.  So, this year, we’ll stick with potted plants, a few flowers planted in the yard and of course, a vegetable garden full of tomatoes, squash, eggplant and more!

I decided that while I had another half hour before having to head home, that I would browse the shelves.  I usually wander from New Releases to Bargains to Self-Help to Religion to the Children’s Section.  And on this day….I found myself heading to the Gardening Section.  I LOVE books on Annuals, Perennials, Roses and more!  I’m by no means a Master Gardener…but I’m not too bad either. Browsing through the shelves, I came upon a very interesting find for a commercial store….

Gardening Books

See it?  Right there in the middle of Pruning and Vegetable and Herb plantings?  YEP – Marijuana Grow Basics. Hmmm…OK.  Not exactly what I had in mind for learning about or growing this Spring.

For the record, I DID NOT purchase this book.  There may or may not have been a time in my life that would have come in handy…but by no means is it today or will it be in the future.  But, if it is your thing…I know a great little head shop BIG Store that’s got you covered!

Happy Plantings!  Whatever it may be this year!

LOL That’s too funny! I am so glad you are getting some “me” time! I am jealous, there’s nothing like that in the city we just moved to because I would definitely take advantage of it!

That’s wonderful that your hubby encourages you to take time for yourself! And your interesting find made me giggle. Not quite what I was thinking of planting this year!

I love the picture from your old garden… I love roses! and it is one of the few flowers I can not grow! I have over an acre now and when we had some tornadoes & lightning strikes take out trees, we ground them out & made small wild gardens… i am not good with formal… and even with such a big yard they still get over grown & filled up… I need some new plots to throw some seed!

I have so much to do in my gardens this year. I have no time to come up with any more projects.

That used to be me, Robin. I would turn the soil and add compost and mulch each Spring. Hopefully, I would add some more plantings and divide the ones I have. I miss it!

Whoops! How did that book get there?

Since I’ve had my son I’ve really cute back on my gardens too. They are just too time consuming with a little one running around.

First, I love your new header!
Second, aren’t those trips alone with your laptop the BEST? DH watched the kids for me once last week and I spent 2.5 blessed hours in a coffee shop with my laptop. Oh it was soooo nice.

And the marijuana – how hilarious!! So funny that it was even published – I guess the publisher knew they would make lots of money from that book LOL

I think it’s great your hubby is so supportive! If he wasn’t you’d probably need that marijuana book!

Sounds like a lovely way to get some blogging (and people watching) done. I no longer can spend time in bookstores. I do enough damage with preowned books! Everyone wonders why I still think I need to go to library as well.
I could have worse habits! My garden could be growing things to support worse habits!

I’m too scared to even attempt to grow roses. I’d feel awful if they died on me. Yours are gorgeous and that sweet little girl just makes the photo! :)
