Last Days Of Summer

The last days of Summer are upon us.

OK…so, it’s just August 1st, but it still feels like Summer is coming to an end.  Once August hits, the Back to School sales start, school supply lists are out, and some of our kids are heading back to school already.

I am happy to say that Ella doesn’t start 4 year old preschool until after Labor Day.  I’m not ready. I’m not ready to say good-bye to the long days and hello to shorter chilly days.

Yeah, I know….we still have some time to go before that gets here.  But, I was just reminded today of what’s to come when I flipped over to the new page on the calendar.

But, for now it’s Summer still and we’re going to take advantage of it.

Farmer's Market

Picking up a tomato

We headed downtown to the Farmer’s Market this weekend.  We picked up cookies, tomatoes, green beans, watermelon, potatoes & sweet corn.  We made a wonderful Sunday meal out of all the fresh produce.  So yummy!  The kids would much rather have their veggies than a plate of chicken nuggets any day!

After we left the Farmer’s Market, we headed across the street to the Old State Capital to pretend we were tourists for a bit.  The kids love to run around and look at the statues of Abraham Lincoln.  I’m not sure why they are so into them, but I hope that the time we spend playing around will instill a love of history in them.

This picture cracks me up!  Andrew is posing just like Abe’s son. HA!

And…now a hug!

High Five

“Here…I’ll help you give a high five, Bub!”  My kids are goof balls!

Here’s Ella peeking around Young Abe.  She just loves these statues!   Maybe we need to take her into the actual Abraham Lincoln museum across the street.  I think she’d really enjoy it.

Here’s my attempt at getting a nice shot with the kids.

Well, I guess it’s better than nothing!

So, we had a great summer weekend and we’ll just keep on enjoying it as long as we can.

Let’s try not to go there…

What did you do this weekend?  Any plans for the week ahead?  Share with me!

Hey! Don’t rush things… summer still has another 7 or 8 weeks! It only started at the end of June, so there’s more summer yet to come than there is behind us. And if your kids aren’t in school yet, you have a bonus. Several weeks of summer weather without summer crowds.

That picture of your son posing as the statue is ADORABLE! What a cutie! We started our back-to-school shopping (3 kids) today with three weeks left of summer. Trying to sneak in a day trip to the beach before it is over. (Just too hot!)However, your picture is making me crave some peaches..so maybe a Farmer’s Market trip is calling my name. :)

Haha! I love that photo of my son! I didn’t even tell him to do it!

Nothing says summer like the Farmer’s Market – I hope you are able to get there before the summer is over. The beach sounds nice too!!
