As you celebrate Holy Week, here’s a great way to explain the empty tomb to your children and symbolize the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A great time to do this would be on Easter Morning.
* First read John 19 to your children to explain the events leading up to Jesus’s burial.
* While the rolls are baking, read John 20: 1-18 to explain the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Ingredients:
- 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 8 large marshmallows
- Melted butter
- Cinnamon
- Sugar
Directions:
- Take one triangle shaped section of crescent roll. This represents the tomb that Jesus was laid in.
- Take one marshmallow which represents the body of Christ.
- Dip the marshmallow in the butter to represent the oils and roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture to represent the spices that Jesus’s body was anointed with upon burial.
- Lay the marshmallow on the dough and carefully wrap it around the marshmallow. This represents how Jesus was wrapped in cloth before being laid to rest in the tomb.
- Make sure all seams are pinched together well – Otherwise the marshmallow will “ooze” out of the seams.
- Bake according to package directions – I like to place mine in muffin tins. Helps to keep shape and mess contained if mallow oozes out.
- Cool.
- Break open the “tomb” and the body of Christ is no longer there!!
- Celebrate that Jesus has risen!
These are extremely good. Also put a piece of chocolate instead of the marshmallow. I had a hard time keeping the marshmallow inside of the rolls though and made a sticky mess on my pans, but they were still Really good to eat!
I bet chocolate is good in them! Try putting your roll in a muffin pan to contain your mess. If you don’t over bake them, they might not pop open. Try that!
