Continuing on with my never ending quest to get my life organized, today I give you…

Junk drawer organization

My junk drawer!

This drawer is in my kitchen and we use it daily. It’s full of stuff that should go there and stuff that does not belong there. It’s become a catch all. I will admit that I am the worst at picking things up from around the downstairs and throwing it in this drawer with the intention of moving it to it’s rightful home later on. But, it never happens and the drawer becomes more and more full – to the point of not opening or closing without a little push and shove.

So, today I’m cleaning it out and sharing it with you! First – I removed everything in the drawer and put it on the counter in piles that made sense to me. haha! I had one for each child, one for me and one for office type supplies. I threw out anything that we didn’t really need as I went. Which surprisingly wasn’t that much.

Junk drawer organization

I had already lined it with pretty contact paper that I bought at Target a while back. I did a bunch of my kitchen drawers this way and I love it! It gives a little personality to my kitchen without much money or effort. And, it wipes clean so easily.

I also picked up some Itso organizers at Target and love them! They were inexpensive and durable. I have three in here now, but would like to pick up a couple more to put in the back.

Using drawer organizers helps to keep "junk" contained and organized.

Once I had my piles all organized, I decided what needed to to go back into the drawer. Not much!

Having a space to keep items you need within reach helps to keep your day more sane and organized!

I like to keep things I need to use daily within reach – like scissors, pens, markers, electronics cords, hand lotion and lip balm and spare change for the Ice Cream Man. We also have our box tops we collect for the school in this drawer and the kid’s hair stuff. It’s so much more convenient for me to have a brush, homemade tangle spray, hair gel and hair ties right here where I can get to them. Mornings are crazy around here and the last thing I want to do is run upstairs to do hair or send the kids up to bring it down. It just makes more sense for us to have it right here and it works for us! I still have space to add things that I HAVE to have close. I’ll add those in as they pop up. But, hopefully the stray items will make it to where they go before filling my junk drawer again!

That’s it! Nothing hard or fancy about this junk drawer organization but it sure makes me happy! Having a space to keep items you need within reach helps to keep your day more sane and organized!

So..here’s a little before and after for ya!

Ahhh….MUCH BETTER!

I’ll share my spice cabinet with you next time! It’s another problem area that has become more organized with the help of $1 organizers!
