Money Saving Tips for Grocery Shopping

Everyone likes to save money these days. Some are better at it than others, but we all want to save where we can. But, it can get confusing and overwhelming when it comes to couponing, price matching and organizing it all! One way to take all the confusion out of saving money is to plan your Meal Plan around the items you have in your home and the items on sale at your local grocery store.

Money Saving Tips For Grocery Shopping

I used to try to go through the Sunday coupons, check online coupon sites and print off all the coupons I thought I might need, organize them and store them each week. It took a lot of time out of my day (or days!) and I wasn’t even sure if I’d use the coupons before they expired and most of the time I didn’t! I knew there had to be a better way! So I gave up on coupon cutting and used the strategies below to save money and create a meal plan my whole family would love!

Check The Pantry And Refrigerator Before Making Your List

My husband and I have a running joke about when I would come home from the store with another container of sour cream when we already had 3 in the fridge. It was something I knew I didn’t want to be without and would just pick it up. Most of the time one would go bad before I could eat it and have to be thrown out. So, I started doing an inventory of what I had on hand so that  I wouldn’t duplicate items and use what I had so that I was not wasting money!

Plan Your Meals Around What You Already Have On Hand

Once you’ve done an inventory – create your week’s meals from what you already have on hand. If you know you have chicken breasts, salad and potatoes – there’s a meal! If you have a chuck roast and buttered noodles – grab some veggies to add to your roast for pot roast -there’s another meal! If you have oatmeal – grab some nuts and maple syrup to go on top for breakfast one day. See how this works? You may have to be creative, but you can create meals from what you have and by grabbing a few things to add to it to make a meal plan each week!
