Creamy Slow Cooker Crack Chicken Recipe

This slow cooker crack chicken dish is so flavorful thanks to cream cheese, bacon, ranch seasoning mix, and cheddar cheese! It’s practically impossible not to go for seconds (maybe even thirds?). Luckily, it’s so easy to make you can quickly whip up a second batch when the craving hits.

We love to eat the creamy shredded chicken on burger buns to make a sandwich, but you can serve it up any way you like. Want to eat it with a spoon right out of the slow cooker? Hey, why not? I won’t judge.

After all, we call it crack chicken for a reason. You just have to eat it immediately!

I usually make this recipe as a weeknight dinner. However, it would also be great for a potluck or game day get-together. Just swap the hamburger buns for slider rolls and you’ve got yourself a crowd-pleasing crack dip appetizer. Slow cooker chicken recipes are always amazing, and this one is one of the best you will ever try!

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 1/2 – 2 pounds skinless boneless chicken breasts – You can also use skinless chicken thighs.
  • 1 ounce packet Ranch dressing mix
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika – This adds a subtle smoky flavor that’s hard to beat!
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 8 ounces cream cheese – Let this soften a bit so it’s easy to mix in. Use full-fat, brick-style cream cheese, not cream cheese from a tub.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese – For the best taste and texture, buy a block of cheese and shred it yourself.
  • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon – I like to make a batch of oven bacon and crumble it into pieces. However, real bacon bits work well, too.
  • 1/5 cup green onion – For a milder flavor, substitute chives.
  • Burger buns

Variations

  • Want to up the veggie factor? Stir frozen peas into your crockpot crack chicken.
  • Make it spicy by adding your favorite hot sauce or cayenne pepper.
  • Sliced jalapeños or Hatch chiles will add a bit of a Tex-Mex twist to the recipe.

Directions for How to Make Slow Cooker Crack Chicken

  1. Combine: Grease the slow cooker with nonstick spray. Arrange the chicken in an even layer along the bottom. Then, sprinkle the Ranch seasoning and paprika on top. Pour the stock over the chicken.
  2. Cook: Cover the slow cooker, and cook on low for four to five hours. The chicken will reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit when the chicken cooks completely. Raw chicken is completely safe in a slow cooker as long as it cooks all the way through!
  3. Shred: Use two forks to shred the cooked chicken. Then, add the cream cheese, and stir until it melts completely.
  4. Combine the ingredients: Add the shredded cheese, bacon, and green onions to the mixture. Mix to combine, and enjoy your crock pot crack chicken warm!

Serving Suggestions

I love to serve this slow cooker crack chicken on hamburger buns! However, it’s also great over baked potatoes, with tortilla chips, tossed with egg noodles, or folded into wraps. You can also serve it in lettuce wraps for a keto-friendly option.

Then, pair it with a simple side like steamed green beans, roasted broccoli, or air fryer French fries for a complete meal.

How to Store + Freeze Slow Cooker Crack Chicken

  • Store leftover slow cooker crack chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
  • Freeze leftovers for up to three months.

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup cooked bacon crumbled
  • ¼ cup green onion chopped

To Serve

Instructions 

  • Coat the inside of the slow cooker with nonstick spray. Arrange the chicken along the bottom, then sprinkle with the Ranch seasoning and paprika. Pour the chicken stock over the top. Cook on low for 4 to 5 hours until the chicken is cooked through. If using a meat thermometer, the internal temperature will read 165 F.

  • Shred the chicken with a fork, then add the cream cheese. Stir until melted.
